Dutch and Russian couple, Ksenia Varlamova (33), and her husband, Nirul Rashim Abdoelrazak (31), were handed over to the Denpasar District Attorney’s Office after their case file was declared P21 on Monday, January 26, 2026.
They were arrested by the police after being caught cultivating hydroponic marijuana on the second floor of their rented house on Jalan Bina Kesuma, Ubung Kaja, Denpasar.
“There was a clandestine hydroponic marijuana operation in a house on Jalan Bina Kesuma, Ubung. We arrested them on October 1, 2025,” said the Bali Regional Police’s Director of Narcotics, Senior Commissioner Radiant, during a press conference at his office on Friday (October 3, 2025).
Radiant said he found numerous marijuana plants still growing in pots. He also found marijuana leaves packaged in plastic bags, even though they were not yet dry.
Police also found several hydroponic farming tools on the second floor of the house rented by Nirul and Varlamova. These included an air conditioner, a transparent tarpaulin tent similar to a glamping tent, a thermometer, and a running air conditioner.
Nirul and Varlamova used all of this equipment to maintain a cool room temperature. They also found several other pieces of equipment used for hydroponic marijuana cultivation.
“They planted using pots. There was a hydroponic growing medium container containing a series of hydroponic growing equipment. The suspect also set up a hydroponic tent, electrical system, irrigation system, and seeding system,” said Radiant.
Radiant said that Nirul and Varlamova were not working alone. Another person, identified as C, alias Chestar, was involved. Police are still searching for C.
C is suspected of supplying marijuana seeds to Nizar and Varlamova. The Dutch and Russian couple received the seeds and began cultivating marijuana in their rented house in May 2025.
“They started cultivating the seeds in May 2025. But most of the (marijuana plants) haven’t been harvested yet,” he said.
For the crime of cultivating marijuana in their rented house, Nirul and Varlamova are being charged under Article 111 paragraph 2 and Article 113 paragraph 2 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. The threat is a minimum prison sentence of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years.
