The state-owned aviation and tourism holding company, PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero), or InJourney, is entering its fourth year in Indonesia. InJourney is implementing various strategic initiatives across its portfolio, including airport transformation and improved air connectivity, the development of cultural and educational destinations such as Borobudur and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park), the development of International Medical Tourism in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and the development of The Mandalika and The Golo Mori tourism destinations. Through Sarinah, InJourney also consistently brings Indonesia’s best to the global stage. This series of initiatives has contributed to improved corporate performance, as reflected in InJourney’s position as the 43rd largest company in Indonesia.
InJourney is further strengthening its role in making aviation and tourism a catalyst for national economic growth. This achievement serves as the foundation for InJourney to fulfill its dual role in a balanced way: as a value creator and an agent of development, through a transformation that not only strengthens internal performance but also makes a tangible contribution to the national economy, the aviation and tourism sectors, and community welfare through synergy with stakeholders.
Entering its fourth year, InJourney remains committed to sustainability as the primary direction of its transformation. Aligned with the theme “InJourney 4 Years of Working Together, Preserving Indonesia,” sustainability is positioned as a framework for thinking and acting in every long-term initiative, making tourism a cross-generational investment that balances economic growth, environmental preservation, and social empowerment, and building a green foundation for Indonesia’s future.
InJourney’s commitment to sustainable tourism stems from the belief that long-term business success can only be achieved when economic growth goes hand in hand with environmental preservation and community empowerment. Through the vision of “Sustainable Tourism Economy and Creating Impact for Communities,” InJourney is building an aviation and tourism ecosystem that not only drives national economic growth but also strengthens local communities and maintains environmental sustainability as an integral part of its future business strategy.
Herdy Harman, InJourney’s Director of Human Resources and Digital, emphasized that sustainability and business responsibility are the main foundations of national tourism transformation. He believes that development should not stop at infrastructure and programs, but must also address the most essential aspect: people.
“We demonstrate our commitment through the green initiative program within the InJourney Group, which is an initiative to create a sustainable tourism ecosystem. We designed this initiative to generate measurable, consistent, and sustainable impact, in line with InJourney’s transformation agenda to build an environmentally friendly aviation and tourism ecosystem,” Herdy added.

From an environmental perspective, as part of its ESG implementation, InJourney affirmed its commitment to reducing emissions by 4,000 tons of CO2. This commitment is the first step in the transformation towards greener and more responsible operations, as well as a tangible form of support for the Net Zero Emission target set by the Indonesian Government.
One of the tourist destinations managed by InJorney through its subsidiary, InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), The Nusa Dua, Bali, has implemented a sustainable tourism ecosystem based on the principle of environmental responsibility. Troy Warokka, ITDC’s Director of Operations, explained that the implementation of green initiatives in this area is the operational foundation for making the area a resilient and sustainable premium destination. “The implementation of green utilities such as Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO), Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), integrated Waste Management, and Reclaimed Water has ensured that tourism activities are efficient, safe, and maintain environmental sustainability. For ITDC, sustainability is not just an agenda, but the operational foundation of the area, ensuring that The Nusa Dua remains a resilient and sustainable premium destination for future generations,” he added.
The Nusa Dua, Bali, has been operating the SWRO facility for the past three months. This facility is capable of producing 331,382 m³ of clean water, and when fully operational, the SWRO has a production capacity of up to 1,314,000 m³ of clean water per year. The SWRO utilizes seawater as an alternative clean water source, significantly reducing the region’s dependence on groundwater and other sources.
fresh water. The implementation of this technology also plays a crucial role in improving the region’s water security, mitigating the risk of water scarcity due to climate change, and ensuring the sustainability of tourism operations in The Nusa Dua.
The implementation of the SWRO facility also brings ITDC NU, a business entity under ITDC, to a historic achievement as the first company in Indonesia to obtain an official permit from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to process seawater into potable water using modern technology.
Anak Agung Istri Ratna Dewi, President Director of ITDC Nusantara Utilities, stated that the implementation of SWRO is a concrete step in strengthening the region’s water security while simultaneously reducing pressure on groundwater. “With this safe and scalable technology, we ensure a stable supply of clean water for all tenants and tourists without compromising environmental sustainability. The KKP’s recognition as the first company in Indonesia to obtain an official permit to process seawater into potable water is proof that green innovation can go hand in hand with efficiency and high service standards,” she said.
