Denpasar, Eyewitness | Jamie Mcintyre, the defendant in civil suit number 1536/Pdt.G/2025/PN Dps Denpasar, can now breathe a sigh of relief. The Denpasar District Court rejected the plaintiff’s lawsuit in a provisional ruling, and in the main ruling, dismissed the plaintiff’s lawsuit in its entirety. He was ordered to pay court costs, which were set at Rp1,402,000.00 (one million four hundred and two thousand rupiah), as decided in the deliberation hearing of the Denpasar District Court Panel of Judges on Monday (March 2, 2026).

Accompanied by his attorney, Komang Ari Sumartawan, S.H., Jamie Mcintyre filed a counter-report against I Made Murna to the Bali Regional Police on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, alleging defamation. He alleged that I Made Murna had circulated and/or published electronic video content on the social media platform YouTube.

Komang Ari Sumartawan, S.H., explained that the video, which was in English, contained a clip of a person named Made Murna making a statement about the complainant. Then, at the 7:45 mark, he clearly stated, “Don’t do any business with this guy, because this will bankrupt you.”

“Made’s statements in the video clearly and explicitly attack the complainant’s honor and constitute slander, as Made Murna clearly stated,” Ari Sumartawan stated.

In his joint report with his client, Ari Sumartawan stated that the substance of the statements in the video contained defamation and/or slander, as Made Murna’s statements clearly accuse the complainant of despicable and/or unlawful acts, mislead public opinion as if the alleged defamation report were factual, and were submitted without legal basis, without a legally binding court decision, and without confirmation from the complainant.

Ari Sumartawan also noted that as a direct result of these actions, the complainant suffered professional reputational damage, impacting working relationships and the trust of third parties, as well as potential and/or actual economic losses due to decreased trust and professional opportunities.

“So that our client’s defamation report can be processed according to applicable law,” he stated.

Chronology of the Case

The case began on December 11, 2023, when Jamie Mcintyre, the plaintiff, and the defendant, I Made Murna, agreed to a contract for the Planning and Design Work Drawings for the construction of several villas to be built by the plaintiff, divided into several lots with different villa types.

The contract value for the villa construction planning design drawings for each lot, from lot 1 to lot 7, lot 11, and the Resort Facility, was agreed upon by the Plaintiff and the Defendant, with varying amounts.

However, in its implementation, Defendant I Made Murna felt he had been wronged and filed a lawsuit alleging that Jamie Mcintyre had breached his promise to the Defendant in a civil case.

Jamie Mcintyre, accompanied by his attorney, explained that the actual issue was that Defendant I Made Murna’s work violated several agreements they had agreed to, namely, the work exceeded the specified deadline, the materials were of poor quality, and there was no good faith effort to make improvements.

“I have suffered material losses in the construction of these villas,” Jamie said.

Counter-Report

Jamie McIntyre’s complaint, now directed at I Made Murna, concerns his comments on the social media platform YouTube, which he claims have caused him both material and immaterial harm.

“The video, originally published by A Current Affair on Channel 9, Australia, has been republished by A Current Affair on YouTube and has been viewed, shared, and/or commented on by a number of users, thereby expanding the reach of the defamatory information and exacerbating the harm I have suffered,” Jamie explained.

The section in question, regarding Made Murna’s remarks, involves an interview he gave to someone at his office in Bali. When asked what advice he would give to people about doing business with Jamie McIntyre, he said, “Don’t do any business with this guy because this will bankrupt you.”

“That the video has been viewed, shared, and/or commented on by a number of users, thus expanding the reach of the defamatory information.” “This suggestion has exacerbated the damage I have suffered,” Jamie explained.

He also added that the defendant’s actions were conscious and intentional, as the video was actively created, recorded, edited, and uploaded, thus demonstrating deliberate intent (dolus) in disseminating information that attacks his honor and reputation.

“Based on this information, we hereby request the Bali Regional Police Cyber Directorate to follow up on this complaint in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” Jamie concluded.(Dnl)
