LUX Property Group has confirmed plans for what is expected to become the signature landmark building of its new coastal mini-city development, Nesara Bay City, with a major convention and events centre planned for the heart of the project.
Located within the Town Centre precinct near the city’s central lake and only a short walk from the beach, the proposed convention centre is designed to become a focal point for tourism, business events, exhibitions, entertainment, and major conferences in South Lombok.
The project forms part of the broader redevelopment and rebranding of the former Marina Bay City project, which came under new management control late last year. Since taking over, LUX Property Group has undertaken a complete review of the master plan, infrastructure, permitting strategy, and long-term vision for the development.
The company said Stage One of the new master plan is currently progressing through approvals, with final permits expected in the coming months. Civil works are anticipated to commence sooner, while broader construction activity is expected to begin as approvals are finalized.
Under the current concept plans, the convention centre will initially be developed as a 2,000-square-metre stadium-style convention and events facility, capable of hosting conferences, trade shows, exhibitions, weddings, sporting events, concerts, and corporate functions.
A second stage is planned to expand the precinct through the addition of a dedicated exhibition hall, creating one of the largest convention and events destinations in the region.
LUX Property Group expects construction of the convention centre to commence in approximately 12 months, subject to permits and approvals.
Company representatives said the convention centre is intended to play a vital role in attracting domestic and international visitors to Lombok while helping support accommodation demand throughout the wider city.
“The convention centre is designed to be much more than just an event venue,” a spokesperson said.
“It is intended to become a landmark structure for Nesara Bay City and a catalyst for tourism, business activity, weddings, conferences, exhibitions and community events throughout South Lombok.”
The facility is expected to overlook landscaped public spaces, water features, the central lake precinct, and surrounding resort areas, while remaining close enough to the coastline to provide visitors with views of Lombok’s renowned beaches and ocean scenery.
LUX Property Group also confirmed that a tender process is currently underway for the project, with the most likely successful bidder expected to be an Indonesian construction company, although the preferred contractor has not yet been formally announced.
The convention centre forms part of the broader vision for Nesara Bay City, which is planned as a master-planned tourism, lifestyle and wellness destination featuring hotels, villas, retail precincts, hospitality venues, wellness facilities, entertainment areas, and public open spaces.
The company believes the development will help position South Lombok as an emerging destination for conferences, exhibitions and large-scale events, complementing the region’s growing tourism industry and international profile.
Further details regarding the convention centre design, construction tender and commencement timetable are expected to be released following completion of the current approval process.
