Bali Governor Wayan Koster has pledged his full support for Bali’s bid to host the 2031 World Congress of Dermatology (WCD).
The commitment was delivered during a meeting with representatives from the Indonesian Society of Dermatology and Venereology (PERDOSKI) at Jayasabha, Denpasar, on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
PERDOSKI President for the 2024–2027 period, Dr. Hanny Nilasari, stated that Indonesia is preparing to enter the selection process for WCD 2031 by proposing Bali as the host destination. The bidding process is scheduled for 2027 in Mexico, where six countries will compete for the hosting rights.
The WCD is among the most prestigious global gatherings in the field of dermatology, bringing together medical specialists, experts, and academics from across the globe. The forum serves as a platform for exchanging scientific research, clinical advancements, and expanding international networks in dermatology, venereology, and aesthetics.
According to Dr. Nilasari, securing the host position could draw over 12,000 international delegates to Bali, excluding accompanying attendees. This turnout is expected to generate a substantial economic impact, particularly for the island’s tourism sector and its Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry.
We humbly request the Governor’s backing so that Bali, Indonesia, can host this prestigious event. Six countries are competing, with an estimated attendance of over 12,000 participants, alongside their accompanying guests,” Dr. Nilasari said.
In response, Governor Koster voiced wholehearted support for the candidacy. He stated that the Bali Provincial Government stands ready to issue official recommendation letters and assist PERDOSKI with all requirements to strengthen Bali’s bidding position.
”I fully support this effort and will provide the necessary recommendations. Please inform us of any requirements needed for the World Congress of Dermatology,” Koster stated.
The Governor expressed optimism regarding Bali’s prospects of winning the 2031 WCD host selection, citing the island’s proven track record in organizing major international gatherings, including the G20 Summit and the 10th World Water Forum. He emphasized that these successes underscore Bali’s capacity to deliver the infrastructure, facilities, and services required for global scale events.
Koster highlighted the 10th World Water Forum in 2024, noting that out of 36 voting nations in the selection process, only six voted against Bali. He viewed this overwhelming majority as a clear reflection of international trust in Bali’s event hosting capabilities.
Furthermore, Bali’s successful hosting of the G20 Summit serves as a critical asset, demonstrating its ability to accommodate heads of state, international delegations, and global delegates seamlessly. Beyond event management, Koster pointed out that Bali’s international appeal, world-class tourism infrastructure, and rich cultural and natural heritage offer a compelling advantage over competing destinations.
”Bali holds exceptional appeal for international events,” Koster added.
If selected, the 2031 congress is expected to drive economic and tourism growth while opening broader avenues for international healthcare collaboration. The presence of thousands of global specialists and researchers aims to foster knowledge sharing with domestic medical professionals, further solidifying Bali’s status as a top-tier destination for international scientific, medical, and MICE activities.
Supported by its track record and the full backing of the provincial administration, Governor Koster expressed confidence in Bali’s strength as a contender. The Bali Provincial Government remains committed to coordinating closely with PERDOSKI throughout the process to ensure Indonesia secures the hosting rights for WCD 2031.
