Badung, Eyewitness | A serious incident involving the shattering of glass on a padel court at Amare Padel, Canggu, Bali, has again come into the spotlight after an Australian player suffered serious injuries while playing on February 12, 2026. The incident raised sharp questions about the safety standards of sports facilities in Bali, and prompted an official complaint and police report by the victim and his teammates.
The incident occurred when the player, chasing the ball at full speed, collided with a 3-meter-high glass panel at the back of the court. CCTV footage shows the entire glass panel shattering instantly and falling onto the player, causing serious injuries to his shoulder, leg, and other parts of his body. Some of the wounds were reportedly several centimeters deep, and the victim lost a significant amount of blood before receiving medical attention.
After the incident went viral on social media and in the padel community, the victim and his wife decided to return to Australia to undergo emergency surgery to remove the glass shards from his body. He had previously received initial treatment at a hospital in Bali.
“This isn’t just a one-off incident. From what we know, similar incidents have happened several times before at the same venue,” said a source from the player involved in the accident, indicating that safety issues with the glass installation have been recurring.
While padel allows for bouncing balls off the court’s glass walls as part of the game, the glass used should meet international safety standards for sports facilities, such as high-quality tempered glass designed to minimize injury if broken.
Several players and observers believe the incident highlights potential deficiencies in the standardization of court materials and installations, raising concerns about the safety of athletes and visitors. Numerous complaints have been filed against Amare Padel management, including requests for a safety audit and clarification regarding the materials used.
Meanwhile, the victim and witnesses have filed official reports with the authorities to address alleged negligence at the facility. To date, Amare Padel management has not issued an official statement regarding last week’s incident.
This case marks a crucial moment for sports facility managers in Bali to evaluate and improve safety standards to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
