Badung Police Crack Down on Violent Group Assault and Fatal Robbery Cases

BADUNG, Eyewitness | Badung Resort Police Chief, AKBP Joseph Edward Purba, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., has announced the successful resolution of two high-profile criminal cases that recently gripped the region.

The first involves a brutal mob assault on Jan. 31, 2026, in Kapal Mengwi. A male student, identified as IGSPP, and his companion were repeatedly struck with paving blocks, double sticks, and car door handles.

Of the 11 suspects apprehended at their residences, eight are minors. While the minors will not be detained in accordance with the juvenile justice system, the three adult suspects face prosecution under the Criminal Code, carrying a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rp500 million.

?In a separate development, police have detained three recidivists—identified as A, SY, and AS—linked to a fatal “begal” (violent robbery) on Feb. 7, 2026, in Kerobokan. The suspects reportedly forced the victim’s motorcycle off the road and snatched their bag, causing the victim to strike a utility pole and die at the scene.

“The suspects were intercepted while attempting to flee to West Java,” AKBP Purba stated. Supported by the Bali Regional Police, authorities tracked the trio using CCTV footage and witness testimony. The suspects face up to 15 years in prison.
