Denpasar Police Holds Cross Sectoral Meeting
Eyewitness – The Denpasar City Police (Polresta Denpasar) convened a Cross-Sectoral Coordination Meeting (Rakor) for Operation Ketupat Agung 2026 on Monday (March 9, 2026), at the Pesat Gatra Building. The meeting was held to finalize security preparations ahead of the dual celebrations of Nyepi (Saka New Year 1948) and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri.
The session was chaired by Denpasar Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Leonardo D. Simatupang, and attended by the Vice Mayor of Denpasar, the District Military Commander (Dandim) 1611/Badung, and representatives from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Denpasar City Government, the Transportation Agency, Satpol PP, the Health Agency, and the Customary Village Council (MDA), alongside various community and religious leaders.
Commissioner Leonardo explained that the annual coordination is vital for synchronizing inter-agency cooperation and evaluating previous security challenges. The goal is to optimize public safety and service quality during the upcoming festivities.
”To create a conducive security environment and ensure safety for those observing the fasting month, Eid al-Fitr, and the Nyepi series of events, the Police are synergizing with the TNI and local government agencies,” Leonardo stated.
Denpasar Police Chief led the meeting
The Denpasar Police have established a security framework under the code name Operation Ketupat Agung 2026, which will run for 13 days from March 13 to March 25, 2026.
During the meeting, the Head of Operations (Kabag Ops) presented data on regional security trends, including crime statistics and traffic accident patterns, to serve as a baseline for preventive measures.
Denpasar Vice Mayor I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa expressed his appreciation for the police’s initiative. He emphasized the need to anticipate potential vulnerabilities, particularly during Malam Pengerupukan (the eve of Nyepi), to prevent a recurrence of past incidents. He called for a robust collaboration between the TNI, Police, and all stakeholders.
Key Coordination Points:
• Timing: Malam Pengerupukan activities are scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM WITA.
• Eid Adjustments: As Eid al-Fitr is expected to fall on March 20, 2026—close to the Nyepi period—adjustments to the timing of Eid prayers are being coordinated to maintain religious harmony.
• Emergency Services: The Badung Health Agency introduced the ‘Badung Sehat’ app, capable of detecting emergency locations within three seconds. A 24-hour call center (081139919119) and standby ambulances at 13 community health centers (Puskesmas) have been prepared.
• Religious Harmony: The Customary Village Council (MDA) and the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Denpasar both urged mutual respect and self-restraint. It was noted that Eid prayers on March 20 are planned to be pushed back to 8:00 AM WITA to accommodate the local context.
Commissioner Leonardo concluded by urging all parties to stick to the agreed-upon protocols and handle social media narratives wisely. He stressed the importance of spreading positive content to ensure Denpasar remains safe and peaceful throughout the holy seasons.
