Collaborating with Pandawara Group, InJourney Encourages Community Cooperation Through Beach Clean-Ups in Bali to Strengthen Sustainable Tourism

Denpasar, Eyewitness | State-owned aviation and tourism holding company PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero), or InJourney, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable tourism through a Beach Clean-Up at Kelan Beach, Bali, on Wednesday (February 18th). Collaborating with Pandawara Group, InJourney encourages communities across sectors to work together to raise awareness of waste issues and environmental preservation as the foundation of sustainable Indonesian tourism.

This activity involved various stakeholders, including InJourney Group employees, the Badung Regency Government, the Badung Environmental Agency, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Police, stakeholders and airport partners, including airport authorities, customs, immigration, and quarantine officials, as well as local communities and students from SD Negeri 3 Tuban. This cross-stakes collaboration reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation in preserving Bali’s leading tourist destination.

During this activity, the volunteers successfully collected more than 2.25 tons of waste, consisting of approximately 2.1 tons of organic waste and 153 kilograms of inorganic waste. This effort not only created a cleaner and more comfortable beach environment but also contributed to the potential reduction of carbon emissions by up to 0.87 tons of CO?e, a concrete step towards preserving nature.

Kelan Beach, located approximately five kilometers south of the runway of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, is known as a favorite destination for tourists who enjoy panoramic sunsets with aircraft taking off and landing as a backdrop. The presence of a series of seafood restaurants and cafes further enhances the area’s appeal, making it a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.

With Bali contributing significantly to 16.33 million international tourist arrivals throughout 2025, maintaining the cleanliness and sustainability of the destination is a shared responsibility. This Beach Clean Up initiative is part of InJourney Green, InJourney’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which focuses on environmental preservation and sustainable tourism management from upstream to downstream.

“Beach Clean Up Day is a concrete manifestation of InJourney’s commitment to addressing the systemic issue of waste. This problem cannot be solved by one party alone. Through a spirit of mutual cooperation and cross-sector collaboration, we believe that every element, from the government, industry players, communities, and the public, plays a vital role in providing sustainable solutions,” said InJourney’s Director of Human Resources and Digital, Herdy Harman.

Herdy added that the collaboration with Pandawara Group began at the beginning of the year, coinciding with InJourney’s 4th anniversary, under the spirit of “Working Together, Preserving Indonesia.” The InJourney Green program with the Pandawara Group will continue through various programs, including waste sorting education, waste management enhancements, and waste assessments in destination areas.

“These activities don’t stop today. We will continue to monitor and conduct clean-up activities regularly and periodically to maintain the cleanliness of tourist destinations. Bali is the face of Indonesian tourism that we must care for together, not only for current tourists but also for future generations,” added Herdy.

Meanwhile, Gilang Rahma, a member of the Pandawara Group, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration. “Today’s activity demonstrates the power of collaboration across all levels of society. Collective awareness of the waste issue is growing stronger and is an important foundation for sustainability. Initiatives like this underscore Indonesia’s progress toward a greener future, where tourism thrives in harmony with nature,” he said.

The InJourney Group manages several strategic assets in Bali, including I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, The Nusa Dua tourism area, and The Sanur Health Special Economic Zone. Through integrated management based on sustainability principles, InJourney not only carries out operational functions but also ensures that every line of business has a positive impact on the environment and surrounding communities.

In addition to beach cleanups, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, or InJourney Airports, as the operator of 37 airports, including I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, also demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by planting 1 million trees within the airport grounds as part of the InJourney Green program.

InJourney Airports’ Human Capital Director, Adi Nugroho, said, “InJourney Airports always prioritizes environmental values ??in pursuing its vision of becoming a world-class airport operator that connects global travelers with authentic Indonesian hospitality. The 1 Million Tree Planting Program initiated by InJourney Airports is also expected to encourage various parties to take the same initiative to continue preserving the environment.”
