SANUR – A gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through the local community after the body of a Ukrainian national, identified as 28-year-old Igor Komarov, was found mutilated near a river estuary in Gianyar.
The victim, who had been the subject of an intense missing persons search and a staggering ransom demand, was discovered by residents near the Wos Teben Ketewel riverbank on Friday (Feb 27) at approximately 10:00 AM.
A Violent Abduction
The harrowing ordeal began when Komarov was reportedly abducted while practicing motorcycling with a group of friends. According to witnesses, the kidnapping was sudden and violent; while Komarov was seized, his companions managed to escape the scene and immediately alerted the authorities.

Following the disappearance, a ransom demand of 168 billion IDR (approximately $10.7 million USD) was circulated via social media. However, the situation took a tragic turn when the abduction escalated into a cold-blooded murder.
Discovery and Identification
The victim’s remains were found in a state of decomposition and had been severed into seven parts. Bali Regional Police spokesperson, Police Commissioner Aria Sandy, confirmed that the body has been transported to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital (RSUP) in Denpasar for forensic examination and DNA profiling.

While official DNA results from the victim’s mother are pending, investigators noted several striking matches to Komarov’s physical profile:
• Distinctive Tattoo: A depiction of the Virgin Mary on the left forearm.
• Personal Effects: A wristwatch found on the remains matches the one worn by Komarov at the time of his disappearance.
Ongoing Investigation
The Bali Regional Police have launched a full-scale investigation, collecting CCTV footage from the vicinity and interviewing several key witnesses.
”We have coordinated with local residents, community security officers (Kamtibmas), and the victim’s inner circle to piece together the events leading up to the kidnapping,” stated Commissioner Sandy. “We are working tirelessly to identify the perpetrators and bring them into custody as soon as possible.”
The motive behind the extreme violence remains under investigation, as police probe whether the act was purely financial or if there were deeper underlying conflicts.
