The Regional Office of the Bali Directorate General of Immigration has consistently tightened surveillance and taken an uncompromising stance against foreign nationals (WNA) violating Indonesian law. From January to June 2026, immigration authorities across Bali imposed administrative sanctions in the form of deportation on 342 foreigners proven to have committed various immigration law violations.
This sustained law enforcement campaign has been carried out on a massive scale by all working units under the Bali Regional Office. All immigration offices across Bali—ranging from the Class I Special TPI Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Class I TPI Denpasar, Class II TPI Singaraja, to Class III Non-TPI Tabanan and Klungkung, as well as the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center—have moved tactically to scour residential areas and high-risk pockets that serve as hubs for foreign activities within their respective jurisdictions.
The surveillance focus on foreign nationals extends beyond maintaining security and public order to activities that impact economic and social sectors. Various violations uncovered in the field include foreigners overstaying their permits, abusing residence permits, working without legal authorization, involvement in fraudulent investments, and activities that disrupt public order or breach traditional local customs (adat), posing threats to community security and order.
​The Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Felucia Sengky Ratna, emphasized that her office warmly welcomes all foreign nationals, both tourists and investors, who visit the Island of the Gods. This openness is a form of support for the provincial government’s efforts to position Bali as an international tourism destination. However, she underscored that compliance with prevailing Indonesian laws is absolute and must be adhered to by all foreign nationals.
​”For those who disrespect our laws and disrupt the social order, we will ensure there is no safe haven in Bali. We will take decisive action against foreign nationals through deportation and entry bans. This is not merely routine law enforcement, but a tangible commitment by Bali Immigration to uphold statutory regulations, ensuring a sense of security for the community and fostering a safe and conducive environment,” Felucia stated in an official release.
According to immigration data for the first semester of 2026, the majority of violations were dominated by cases of residence permit abuse and failure to comply with permit validity periods (overstaying).
​Felucia added that the success of this massive crackdown is a direct result of optimizing layered field surveillance, driven by each respective immigration office. The Ngurah Rai, Denpasar, Singaraja, Tabanan, and Klungkung Immigration Offices have actively conducted sweeps through independent operations, the Dharma Dewata Immigration Patrol, and strengthened cross-agency synergies under the Foreign National Surveillance Team (Timpora).
This strengthened inter-agency synergy is evidenced by the uncovering of several major cases. These include the dismantling of a clandestine narcotics laboratory in March 2026 by two Russian nationals—a discovery made possible through collaboration with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Customs. In the same month, an Interpol fugitive from the United Kingdom, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, was apprehended at the Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Finally, in June 2026, authorities successfully thwarted the departure of an Australian Interpol fugitive involved in a motorcycle gang and illegal drug smuggling cases in Australia. This operation succeeded due to coordination with the National Police Criminal Investigation Department’s Directorate of Narcotics Crimes (Dittipidnarkoba Bareskrim Polri) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP). These breakthroughs demonstrate that Immigration cannot work alone; inter-agency communication and coordination remain strategic to safeguarding national sovereignty.
​Concluding her statement, Felucia urged all elements of the Balinese community to remain proactive in monitoring their surroundings to prevent potential violations by foreign nationals.
“We appeal to citizens to utilize the official complaint channels available at every nearest immigration office. Do not hesitate to report immediately if you encounter any suspicious foreign activities that potentially violate the law or breach regulations. Together, let us maintain the dignity, security, and harmony of our proud Island of the Gods,” she concluded.
