Eyewitness – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with France in a joint press statement with French President Emmanuel Macron during a state visit to the Élysée Palace on Thursday, May 28, 2026. In his statement, President Prabowo highlighted the close collaboration between the two countries in bilateral cooperation, in the face of global uncertainty, and emphasized the important roles of Indonesia and France in maintaining world peace.
“Looking at future global developments, we are confident that in a global situation full of uncertainty, tension, and conflict, our two countries can play a positive role. Indonesia will always encourage all efforts to maintain peace. In today’s world, where the earth is getting smaller due to science and technology, war and conflict cannot possibly bring good to anyone,” said the Head of State.
President Prabowo also welcomed the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CEPA). The Head of State also expressed his appreciation for President Macron’s support for increasing investment and economic cooperation between the two countries, including the establishment of the France Indonesia High-Level Business Council, which is expected to strengthen business relations between Indonesia and France.
“I think this is very important, and we would be very pleased with the continued participation and presence of French companies in the Indonesian economy. France, as a European leader, will continue to play a very important role in the Southeast Asian region,” added President Prabowo.
Regarding global issues, President Prabowo and President Macron also discussed the importance of stability in the Middle East, which is seen as having a direct impact on global energy conditions and global supply chains. The Head of State reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for the two-state solution as a path to peace in Palestine.
“I am also very pleased that France is one of the pioneers in encouraging many countries in Europe and the West to support the two-state solution and Palestinian independence. Indonesia remains of the view that there can be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution, without justice for the Palestinian people,” President Prabowo emphasized.
On this occasion, President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the warm and honorable welcome given by the French Government to him and the Indonesian delegation. The Head of State also assessed that bilateral relations between Indonesia and France are currently at an excellent level.
“Today I was received with great honor. Thank you once again. May Indonesia and France continue to move forward with a clear path and strong commitment,” added the Head of State.
Concluding his statement, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia views France and Europe as important strategic partners in creating a balanced and peaceful multipolar world order. President Prabowo is optimistic that relations between Indonesia and France will continue to develop with a strong commitment from both countries.
“Your Excellency, thank you again for the warm welcome you have given me and my delegation, and I am confident that our discussions will yield positive results. Indonesia views France and Europe as important global powers, and we want to see their roles strengthened and strengthened so that we can work together in a multipolar world,” concluded the Head of State.
