President Prabowo Expected to Launch 2026 Bali Arts Festival
XLVIII (48), Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to officially open the 2026 Bali Arts Festival (PKB). The Head of State’s presence is highly anticipated by both the regional government and the people of Bali to inaugurate this prestigious and grand annual cultural celebration.
The month-long festival is slated to run from June 13, 2026, centered at the Bali Province Cultural Center (Art Center) in Denpasar. Meanwhile, the grand opening cultural parade, locally known as ‘Peed Aya’, will take place around the Bajra Sandhi Bali People’s Struggle Monument in Renon, Denpasar.
Ida Bagus Alit Suryana, Chairman of the PKB 2026 Organizing Committee and Head of the Bali Provincial Cultural Office, stated that this year’s festival adopts the core theme “Atma Kerthi: Jiwa Sidha Parisudha.” The theme signifies the glorification and purification of the human soul toward ultimate perfection, clarity, and sanctity. All artistic presentations—including choreography, musical compositions, traditional songs, and cultural narratives—will align closely with this overarching concept.
Organizers noted that while the festival maintains its core structural agenda, the individual performances and artistic interpretations will offer fresh perspectives, as they are crafted by a new lineup of directors and artists. The diverse participation from outside Bali and overseas further underscores the festival’s enduring global resonance.
The 2026 Bali Arts Festival will also feature international participants, hosting around 10 foreign contemporary and traditional art troupes comprising 260 artists. They will enliven the Bali World Culture Celebration (BWCC) through artistic collaborations and cultural showcases. Participating international delegations include groups from New York (United States), China, Timor-Leste, South Korea, Japan, India, and Hong Kong.
Domestic participation from across the Indonesian archipelago has also seen a significant surge, with 955 performers registered to showcase Indonesia’s rich cultural diversity. Delegations from outside Bali include cultural groups from Jakarta, East Java, Central Java, West Java, Yogyakarta, Banten, and Central Kalimantan.
The cultural parade (Peed Aya) remains a major public highlight. It has been curated to be highly engaging and concise while strictly highlighting the distinct cultural strengths of each Balinese region. The opening ceremony will be centered at the Bajra Sandhi Monument area in Renon. The parade route will commence from the intersection of Jalan Ir. H. Juanda and proceed across Jalan Kusuma Atmaja.
Each regency and city across Bali will take turns presenting their unique traditional heritage, colossal thematic art performances, and local folklore. All nine regencies and municipalities in Bali will participate sequentially in the thematic parade. This year’s Peed Aya is set to open with the sacred Siwa Nataraja Dance and will feature more than 20,000 participating artists.

The Bali Arts Festival comprises 10 core agendas and pillars, ranging from live performing arts and exhibitions to cultural symposiums and seminars.
Artists Urged to Showcase Best Works at PKB 2026
Preparations for the Bali Arts Festival (PKB) have reached approximately 95 percent. Current efforts are focused on decorating stages at the Bali Province Cultural Center (Taman Budaya) and constructing the main grandstand for the opening parade in front of the Bajra Sandhi Monument.
”The artists are ready to perform. We have been monitoring them throughout May by visiting their respective rehearsal spaces,” said Prof. Dr. Gede Arya Sugiarta, a member of the PKB 2026 curatorial team, on Wednesday (July 3).
The curatorial team expressed hope that all participating artists will deliver their finest performances. Meanwhile, the public is urged to show their support by attending the event orderly, maintaining cleanliness, and refraining from littering. All stakeholders are working collaboratively to ensure the success of the festival, which is now entering its 48th year.
