Under the leadership of Denpasar City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Leonardo D. Simatupang, police have uncovered an alleged narcotics abuse case that led to a startling discovery. Beyond securing illicit drugs, officers seized several firearms, airsoft guns, and dozens of rounds of ammunition during a house search.
The suspect was apprehended on Saturday (Aug 1) at approximately 5:30 PM WITA on Jalan Kasuari, Gang Cempaka I, Penatih, East Denpasar.
According to Head of Public Relations at Denpasar City Police, First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, the 30-year-old suspect, identified by the initials ARMP, hails from Kintamani, Bangli Regency. He was detained after the Narcotics Unit acted on a tip-off regarding suspected drug abuse. Officers intercepted the suspect as he was standing on his porch.
During a body and house search, police discovered a packet of powder and purple tablets suspected to be ecstasy. However, the search uncovered far more: officers also found multiple firearms, airsoft guns, and various types of live ammunition inside the residence.
The seized evidence includes five firearms, four airsoft guns, 55 rounds of .38 caliber ammunition, five rounds of .78 caliber ammunition, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, one round of .32 ACP ammunition, five rounds of 8mm blank ammunition, two rounds of .22 LR ammunition, one magazine, and 33 CO2 gas canisters.
Following the discovery, the Narcotics Unit immediately coordinated with the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of Denpasar Police to conduct a deeper investigation into the alleged illegal possession of firearms.
” During initial questioning, ARMP claimed that the firearms and airsoft guns belonged to other individuals who had left them with him for repairs,” the police spokesperson stated.
The suspect, who works as an MMA and boxing coach in the Canggu area, also claimed to be part of a private security service (bodyguard) team.
“The suspect admitted to having the technical skill to repair airsoft guns and stated he was a member of a Tactical Shooting Club in Yogyakarta from 2016 to 2018,” Iptu Gede Adi explained.
ARMP maintained that none of the firearms, airsoft guns, or air guns belonged to him, insisting they were handed over by several individuals for maintenance, along with the corresponding ammunition.
“Regarding the suspected drug abuse, the suspect admitted to consuming narcotics to calm himself down when experiencing stress or pressure,” added Iptu Gede Adi.
Investigators from the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit are currently conducting intensive interrogations to trace the origins of the firearms, verify the legality of the weapons and ammunition, and identify the individuals who allegedly left them in the suspect’s care.
