The Class I Special TPI Ngurah Rai Immigration Office has successfully intercepted and deported an Ethiopian national subject to an Interpol Red Notice. The individual was returned to his country of origin early Tuesday morning (Sept. 15, 2026) under strict escort from the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia.

The suspect, identified by the initials S.M.Y. (male, 29), was first flagged on September 6, 2026, upon arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport aboard a Scoot Tigerair flight. During secondary immigration screening, officers discovered that his name matched an active Interpol Red Notice under the offense code for fraud. Following direct coordination with NCB Interpol, authorities recommended an immediate refusal of entry into Indonesian territory.

According to the Interpol Individual Report, S.M.Y. had been wanted for arrest since April 9, 2026, in connection with a major fraud scheme in Ethiopia involving estimated losses of ETB 46.4 million (Ethiopian Birr), or approximately Rp 5 billion.

Because the suspect initially refused voluntary departure back to Ethiopia, his deportation required a direct escort from NCB Interpol Indonesia personnel. While awaiting final transit arrangements, S.M.Y. was detained at the airport’s holding facility.

On September 15, 2026, S.M.Y. was flown out via Etihad Airways on a Denpasar–Abu Dhabi–Addis Ababa route, escorted throughout the journey by NCB Interpol Indonesia officers.

Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Muhamad Novyandri, stated that the operation underscores the agency’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and supporting international law enforcement cooperation.

”This is clear proof of the synergy between Ngurah Rai Immigration and NCB Interpol Indonesia in detecting and responding to transnational fugitives. Our immigration surveillance system operates strictly from arrival to departure; the moment an Interpol hit was detected, we immediately coordinated and took action according to established procedures,” Novyandri said.

He added that immigration authorities will continue to strengthen collaboration with the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division (Divhubinter), NCB Interpol Indonesia, and other relevant agencies. This ongoing cooperation aims to ensure that I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport remains a secure port of entry, free from foreign nationals who pose a threat to both national and international legal order.
