(11/7/2026) – The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office has released a detailed timeline regarding an Australian national, identified by the initials CJMH (39), who passed away on Friday night, July 10, 2026, while undergoing immigration detention. The individual reportedly received emergency medical treatment before being pronounced dead en route to the hospital.
The case against the individual began following a public complaint in late March 2026 regarding an alleged visa violation. Following a series of investigations and multiple clarification summonses, the findings concluded that the individual had indeed violated their stay permit.
Despite being given repeated opportunities to cooperate and resolve the immigration process, the individual consistently failed to comply with official summonses from officers. On Friday, July 10, 2026, a team—accompanied by representatives from the local Banjar (neighborhood association)—apprehended the individual at their residence in the Jimbaran area, South Kuta. The individual was subsequently placed in the holding room at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office to await deportation.
Later that afternoon, duty officers conducted a routine inspection of the detainee’s condition in the holding room. During subsequent periodic monitoring via closed-circuit television (CCTV), officers noticed an anomaly as the detainee showed no movement for a prolonged period inside the restroom. Officers immediately rushed to the location and found the detainee unconscious.
Personnel instantly checked the detainee’s vital signs, administered first aid including oxygen assistance, and coordinated with the nearest hospital to dispatch an ambulance. A medical team arriving at the scene provided initial emergency care before transferring the individual to the Bali Jimbaran General Hospital for intensive treatment. The individual was pronounced dead while in transit to the hospital. Preliminary findings from the hospital noted a suspected heart attack as a contributing factor at the time of the incident.
The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office immediately coordinated with the Badung Resort Police and the South Kuta Sector Police, who subsequently conducted a forensic investigation at the crime scene (TKP). Further investigations regarding the exact cause of death remain under the jurisdiction of the police and the relevant hospital.
The Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. He emphasized that his office upholds high standards of transparency and accountability in every immigration enforcement process, including this incident. The duty officers executed routine monitoring procedures according to standard protocols, and as soon as the anomaly was detected via CCTV, an immediate response and first aid were provided. He reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining ongoing coordination with relevant authorities, including the police, the hospital, and Australian government representatives, to ensure that all further processes are carried out in compliance with applicable procedures.
