I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali recorded service to 15.5 million passengers between January and August 2026. This figure comprises 10 million international passengers and 5.5 million domestic passengers.
During the same period, aircraft movements reached 94,000, consisting of 52,000 international flights and 42,000 domestic flights.
Nugroho Jati, General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (Persero) at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, stated that these numbers reflect Bali’s ongoing popularity as a destination for both domestic and foreign tourists. “With approximately 64,000 passenger movements daily, we remain fully committed to delivering wholeheartedly service to all airport users,” said Nugroho Jati.
From January to August, Singapore (SIN) emerged as the top international route by passenger volume, recording 1.7 million passengers—accounting for 18% of all international passenger traffic. It was followed by Kuala Lumpur (KUL) with 1 million passengers, Perth (PER) with 794,000, Melbourne (MEL) with 731,000, and Sydney (SYD) with 574,000 passengers.
On domestic routes, Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang (CGK) led the destinations with 2.5 million passengers, representing 45% of total domestic traffic. Surabaya (SUB) followed with 865,000 passengers, Labuan Bajo (LBJ) with 383,000, Lombok Praya (LOP) with 308,000, and Makassar (UPG) with 296,000 passengers.
Regarding foreign tourist arrivals, data from the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office revealed that 4.7 million foreign visitors arrived in Bali via I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport between January and August 2026. Australian passport holders ranked first at 1.1 million visitors, followed by tourists from China (418,000), India (363,000), the United Kingdom (206,000), and South Korea (203,000).
“As of late August, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport serves 65 routes, comprising 41 international routes operated by 44 airlines and 24 domestic routes operated by 11 airlines. Moving forward, we aim to strengthen air connectivity by opening new routes, adding new airlines, and increasing flight frequencies, which will offer more options for travelers flying through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport,” Nugroho Jati explained.
In response to high passenger mobility, the airport continues to upgrade its facilities and services to enhance the travel experience. Among these improvements is the newly operational International-to-Domestic Transfer Connecting Bridge. Officially launched on August 17, the facility aims to improve inter-terminal transfer efficiency in both time and process, elevating overall service quality for travelers.
“The convenience offered by this connecting bridge has the potential to solidify I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport’s position as a hub for both domestic and international flights. With a more seamless process, foreign tourists arriving on international flights to Bali can connect to domestic routes across Indonesia more quickly and easily, and vice versa for domestic passengers transferring to international flights,” Nugroho Jati added.
”Given the high passenger volume, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport will continue to maintain operational readiness while constantly enhancing service quality. This is part of our commitment to supporting Bali’s connectivity and facilitating the mobility of tourists and the public, both locally and internationally,” Nugroho Jati concluded.
