Eyewitness – JAKARTA The Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia has clarified that it does not maintain an official presence on TikTok. This statement follows public reports regarding suspicious accounts impersonating TETO to offer fraudulent visa services.
In an official statement released Wednesday, April 14, 2026, TETO revealed it had received complaints concerning a TikTok account under the handle “TETO @ callcenterteto,” which falsely claims to be the agency’s official channel.
Verification confirms that the account has no affiliation with TETO. All uploaded content was found to be misappropriated footage of official TETO activities in Jakarta and Surabaya, ranging from diplomatic events and cultural exchanges to consular service information.
TETO further emphasized that the account has been unlawfully offering visa consultation services and soliciting fees from the public—actions explicitly categorized as a scam.
“All information and services offered by the said account are false and unauthorized,” TETO stated.

The representative office reiterated that it never provides visa processing or paid consultation services through unofficial social media platforms, including TikTok.
Call to Vigilance
The public is strongly urged to avoid interacting with the account, refrain from sharing personal data, and withhold any form of payment to prevent falling victim to potential fraud.
TETO clarified that its only official social media channels are Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) under the name “Taiwan di Indonesia.”
For legitimate visa and consular services, the public may contact TETO directly via:
• Phone: (021) 515-3939
• Email: [email protected]
TETO confirmed it has gathered evidence and reported the case to the Indonesian National Police and the relevant platform authorities for further action. The office also encourages the public to report similar illegal accounts to combat fraud and safeguard public information security.
