Bali, Eyewitness | The trial of the Bali shooting case entered the reading of the defense attorney’s statement by defendant Darcy Francesco Jenson at the Denpasar District Court on Monday (February 23, 2026).
Jazmyn Gourdeas, the widow of Zivan Radmanovic, who was shot dead at a villa in Bali, attended the hearing accompanied by several members of her late husband’s family. The victim’s first child also attended the hearing and read a letter addressed to the panel of judges.
“My father was shot dead with an illegal firearm. I was only 13 years old, and since this incident, I have had to take responsibility and be the head of the family, taking care of my mother and sisters. I should have focused on school and my goals. But instead, I tried to be strong for my family,” he said.
He was devastated by her father’s death and was even more saddened to learn that those responsible for his death did not face punishment commensurate with what happened to his father, especially Darcy.
“How can someone face the death penalty for bringing drugs into Bali, while someone who was paid to arrange and use illegal firearms and brutally shot my father can walk free? This is unfair. It makes it seem as if some lives are less valuable than others,” he continued.
He pleaded with the panel of judges to impose the harshest possible sentence, at least life imprisonment, on the perpetrator as retribution for his father’s death.
“I respectfully and humbly ask you to consider the lifelong consequences this incident has had on my family. Justice should not only reflect the law, but also the real and lasting impact on those left behind,” he said softly.

Accompanied by his mother, Jazmyn Gourdeas, and other family members, Zivan Radmanovic’s son also read a personal letter to his beloved dad.
“Dear Dad,
I came to the island where you were taken from us—not by your own choice, but because a man ordered three others to commit a crime and brutally shoot you, taking your life,”
Breaking down, she recalled when the family came to Bali for a vacation to celebrate their mother’s birthday.
“The past year has left Mom, your daughters, and me with deep and overwhelming sadness. Some days we try to be strong, but most days we struggle because we no longer have you in our lives,” he continued.

She said the fond memories they have of their father have been overshadowed by the constant media coverage of the trial and of the men who so recklessly committed the crime that took his life forever.
“Our birthdays, Christmas, and every celebration will never be the same again. Life feels so fragile right now, and this loss has left a permanent scar on our hearts.
I took the courage to come to your last place on earth. We never got to say goodbye, but I imagine that, as you lay on that bathroom floor fighting for your life, you were thinking of us,” he said softly.
“Please watch over us and pray for us from above, so that we can stay strong and continue fighting for justice for you, so that you can finally rest in peace,” he concluded.
