Kuta, BaliEyewitnessNews – Indonesian police are investigating the death of Paul Dougan, a senior citizen from Perth, following an alleged assault at the One Tribe One Life Lounge and Cafe in Kuta, Badung, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 02:00 WITA.
Denpasar City Police Public Relations Officer First Inspector (Iptu) I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya stated that on August 8, 2026, the victim was picked up from his accommodation—the Gora Beach Inn—by staff from Murni Teguh Hospital to receive medical treatment.
“On August 9, 2026, at approximately 18:00 WITA, the victim was picked up by his child to be taken to BIMC Hospital for medical care. Upon arrival at BIMC Hospital, the victim was admitted and treated in the Emergency Department before undergoing further care at the hospital,” explained Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya.
Subsequently, on August 20, 2026, at approximately 12:06 WITA, the victim was pronounced dead by BIMC Hospital staff. According to the latest information from BIMC Hospital, the victim’s body has since been transferred to Dharma Yadnya General Hospital. “The Denpasar City Police and Kuta Sector Police have conducted an initial investigation into reports of the alleged assault on the victim.”
Based on the crime scene inspection, witness statements, and CCTV footage, it is suspected that four individuals committed the assault against the victim; all of them are recorded as having left Indonesia after the incident—specifically on August 6, 2026.
The four men have been identified by the initials RGG, PAM, JRM, and TRZ.
Chronology of Events
The victim’s son, Liam Michael Dougan (23, male), stated that the victim was in Bali for a holiday in July 2026. Liam himself arrived in Bali alone for a vacation on July 28, 2026, and subsequently met the victim on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 17:00 WITA.
“We met for dinner in Seminyak. During dinner, Paul Innes Dougan mentioned that he had been subjected to violence by two younger men (Australian nationals) and two older men (also Australian nationals).”
According to what the victim told Liam, the trouble began while the victim was at a bar; one of the perpetrators struck a woman, and when the victim intervened to reprimand him, the perpetrator took offense, leading the group of four to assault the victim.
The victim did not explicitly describe his medical condition to the witness, but the witness observed bruising on the right side of the victim’s face and noted that he was in pain while walking; however, the victim did not request hospital treatment.
“They punched and kicked him repeatedly, leaving him in a life-threatening condition,” the family stated, adding that he had to undergo three major surgeries. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Denpasar City Police, together with the Kuta Sector Police, is currently conducting an investigation, noting that the four individuals left Bali the day after the alleged assault on the victim on August 5, 2026.
