Bali Climate Week returns as a collective momentum for communities to accelerate local climate action. Centered primarily in the Sanur Low Emission Zone (LEZ), this year’s event encourages participants to embrace eco-friendly mobility—utilizing pedestrian paths, bicycles, and the Intaran electric shuttle service to reach event venues.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster stated, “The Provincial Government of Bali is proud to host Bali Climate Week in the Sanur Low Emission Zone as a platform for regions to share insights and strategies in responding to climate change.”

”Regions must lead the forefront in driving climate action, backed by the full support of the central government, development partners, and international institutions,” he noted during a press conference on Sunday evening (Oct 11) at the Kertha Sabha Building, Jaya Sabha, Denpasar. The event was jointly hosted by the Bali Net Zero Emission Coalition and the Provincial Government of Bali.

Governor Koster also highlighted six areas designated as Low Emission Zones: “Ubud, the Nusa Penida Islands, Nusa Dua, Kuta, Sanur, and the Gajah Mada Cultural Heritage Area in Denpasar City have been officially established. ‘Kerthi Bhumi Satwika’ is not merely a regional title, but a shift in our development direction to ensure harmony between nature, culture, and humanity.”

The press conference was attended by ViriyaENB Executive Director Suzanty Sitorus and WRI Indonesia Country Director Nirarta Samadhi, both serving on the Steering Committee of the Bali Net Zero Emission Coalition, the organizer of Bali Climate Week 2026.

Carrying the theme “Local Climate Action: Redefining Just Transition for All,” the event runs from October 13 to 17, 2026. Aside from the main hub in Sanur, field visits will take place across various regions in Bali, including Canggu, Kintamani, Wanagiri, Gianyar, and Kusamba.

Meaningful Public Participation

As a form of grassroots climate action, LEZs require meaningful community involvement across planning, implementation, and monitoring stages.

Steering Committee member Nirarta Samadhi stated, “Mobility challenges in Bali reflect the distinct landscapes and transit patterns of each region. As a strategic approach, implementing a Low Emission Zone must be formulated together with representatives from all community elements within that area. Collaborative action among city governments, villages, traditional indigenous villages, and community groups is the key to successfully improving mobility in the Sanur LEZ.”

Echoing this sentiment, ViriyaENB Executive Director Suzanty Sitorus emphasized that regional governments must match commitments with concrete actions. “The establishment of Low Emission Zones in Bali is a tangible manifestation of our 2045 Net-Zero Emissions commitment. This serves as an example that regional leaders hold a strategic position in understanding local climate challenges and crafting localized solutions.”

She added, “Through the Bali Net Zero Emission Coalition, ViriyaENB supports the Bali Provincial Government in strengthening cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder collaboration. We hope Bali Climate Week 2026 serves as momentum to expand partnerships and drive more tangible initiatives toward a sustainable future.”

Four Core Event Pillars

Bali Climate Week 2026 features four main pillars connecting policy agendas, financing needs, local innovation, and public participation:

• Public Policy Forum: A platform connecting national and local governments, development partners, and community groups to translate commitments and policies into actionable implementation plans.

• Climate Investment Forum: A dialogue space for financial institutions, environmental fund managers, climate entrepreneurs, and partners to discuss funding and financing opportunities for climate initiatives.

• Innovation Exploration: An open space allowing the public to visit the working sites of development partners and innovators, showcasing how climate solutions grow out of local practices and community needs.

• People’s Festival: A collaborative space to explore climate stories and solutions through the premiere of five short films from the Lensa Iklim Bali program, a Sustainable Bazaar, and Interactive Workshops.

Through these programs, Bali Climate Week 2026 aims to broaden the narrative of climate action—extending beyond emission reductions, policies, and commitments to encompass community disaster resilience, natural resource management, sustainable livelihoods, and livable spaces for current and future generations.

The organizers invite the public, communities, business leaders, academics, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders passionate about Bali’s future to get involved.

Bali to Host World Research Institute (WRI) Meeting in 2027
