Coca-Cola System and M Mart Launch “Recycle Me” Initiative in Bali

A collaborative program to expand post-consumer packaging collection in support of a circular economy in Bali

Eyewitness News – BADUNG

SEMINYAK, August 7, 2026 – The Coca-Cola System in Indonesia—comprising Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia (CCEP Indonesia) and Coca-Cola Indonesia—in partnership with PT Global Retailindo Pratama, the retail company operating the M Mart and Big M store networks across Bali, Lombok, and Makassar, has launched the “Recycle Me” initiative.

The program aims to boost post-consumer packaging collection by installing PET bottle drop boxes across 20 M Mart outlets in Bali. This joint endeavor reflects a shared commitment to supporting a more sustainable packaging management system and strengthening recycling collection efforts on the island.

The launch of the “Recycle Me” program comes amid a growing need for effective waste management solutions in Bali.

According to data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), Bali generates approximately 1.25 million tons of waste annually, averaging 3,436 tons per day. Plastic waste accounts for more than 17 percent of this total. This situation underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration to enhance the collection and management of post-consumer packaging so it can be recycled and reused.

“Bali is currently facing significant waste management challenges, requiring the involvement of all parties to deliver sustainable solutions. We appreciate the collaboration between Coca-Cola and M Mart through the ‘Recycle Me’ initiative, which provides easier public access to return post-consumer packaging for recycling. Initiatives like this demonstrate how the business sector can actively contribute to waste management and the circular economy in Bali,” said I Made Dwi Arbani, Head of the Forestry and Environment Agency of Bali Province.

Through the “Recycle Me” initiative, the public can return post-consumer PET bottles to drop box facilities available at M Mart outlets. Collected packaging will enter the recycling value chain to be processed back into raw materials for new packaging. The initiative reflects a comprehensive collaboration across the entire packaging value chain—from brand owners and manufacturers to retailers, recyclers, and consumers.

“As part of our commitment to accelerating a circular economy for packaging in Indonesia, we continue to strengthen collection systems and partnerships across the recycling value chain. Through ‘Recycle Me,’ we want to make packaging returns easier and more practical for consumers, while ensuring that collected bottles are given a second life through recycling,” said Dhedy Adi Nugroho, Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability CCEP Indonesia.

“We deeply appreciate M Mart’s support as a retail partner in expanding public access to packaging collection facilities and recycling education, alongside the collaboration of local governments and TPS 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Management Facility) partners. Since 2023, Coca-Cola in Indonesia has incorporated recycled PET (rPET) into its packaging portfolio as part of efforts to increase recycled material usage and reduce packaging waste.”

Retailers play a crucial role in this program. With a network of stores integrated into consumers’ daily activities, M Mart serves as a bridge connecting consumers to the post-consumer packaging collection system. The presence of drop boxes in easily accessible locations is expected to drive behavioral change, encouraging the public to take an active role in returning used packaging.

”As a retailer that interacts directly with consumers every day and maintains a strong presence near customers through our extensive store network, we have the opportunity to provide accessible solutions. Through the ‘Recycle Me’ initiative, we hope to encourage broader participation in post-consumer packaging returns while inviting consumers to be part of the environmental solution in Bali,” stated Ramesh Ram Khaerudin, Managing Director of M Mart.

The initiative is also supported by partners along the recycling value chain to help ensure that collected packaging can be processed and recycled back into raw materials for new containers. Mahija Parahita Nusantara plays a key role in responsibly collecting and managing post-consumer PET bottles from the market. The materials are then processed by Amandina Bumi Nusantara—a recycling facility established as a joint venture between CCEP Indonesia and Dynapack Asia—which produces food-grade recycled PET (rPET).

“Building a circular economy requires a holistic approach, from packaging design and production to post-consumer collection, recycling, and reuse. Through partnerships across the entire value chain, we aim to help create a system where packaging is not viewed as waste, but as a valuable resource that can be continuously utilized. We hope initiatives like ‘Recycle Me’ can enhance understanding, drive greater public participation, and inspire more collaborative actions toward a cleaner Bali,” Dhedy added.
