According to Andiyani, inmates receive formal certification for the skills and crafts they master during their incarceration, providing them with tangible credentials upon their release.
The reach of their work has already extended beyond the prison walls. “Our handicrafts and ready-to-eat food products have been marketed across various regions in Indonesia. In fact, these products were exhibited and used as souvenirs for international delegates during a recent global congress,” she added.
The prison’s comprehensive empowerment program includes:
• Vocational Training: Culinary arts, beauty salon services, and nail art.
• Agribusiness: Melon and grape cultivation.
• Livestock: Catfish and poultry farming.
Despite the success of these programs, the facility faces significant logistical challenges. The Kerobokan Women’s Prison currently houses 258 inmates—including 12 foreign nationals and five infants—well exceeding its intended capacity of 120 occupants.
