Rieke Diah Pitaloka Backs KAI ( Indonesia Train ) Chief’s Data-Driven Reform Initiatives

Rieke Diah Pitaloka a member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), push for reforms rooted in data transparency and regulatory compliance

Eyewitness – Bekasi
May 3, 2026. Recent tragic incidents within Indonesia’s railway sector must serve as a turning point for comprehensive systemic reform.
Rieke Diah Pitaloka, a member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), emphasized that while railways are a strategic pillar of public transportation, their governance remains ambiguous to this day.
She noted that Law No. 23 of 2007 mandates the establishment of a dedicated infrastructure business entity. However, implementation remains incomplete, leading to overlapping authorities between the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) and the state-owned railway operator, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

Pitaloka expressed her full support for the President Director of PT KAI (Persero) in implementing data-driven improvements.
”I support KAI President Director, Mr. Bobby, in his continuous push for reforms rooted in data transparency and regulatory compliance,” Pitaloka stated in a written release.

She further asserted that fatal train accidents must trigger a total systemic overhaul rather than routine evaluations.

”The East Bekasi tragedy must be the momentum for systemic restructuring, not just a technical evaluation. Accelerating the Presidential Regulation on railway infrastructure governance is key to ensuring clarity and national railway safety. Let us monitor this process together,” she concluded.
